Cullman Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric cooperative serving residential, commercial and industrial members in Cullman, Morgan, Lawrence and Winston counties. Cullman EC was incorporated in 1936, serving 350 members with 30 miles of electrical line. Today, the co-op has more than 42,000 member accounts and maintains more than 3,300 miles of line.

Cullman EC has approximately 100 full-time employees in positions that include linemen, staking technicians, engineering, equipment mechanics, purchasing and stores, accounting, finance, marketing, communications, information technology, metering and collections, theft prevention and investigation, cashiering, member service representatives, human resources, administrative and supervision/management positions. Qualifications, education, and experience necessary can vary depending on the specific job requirements. 

We are currently accepting applications for the position of GIS Mapping Technician.

The individual in this position will be responsible for updating and maintaining the Geographical Information System (GIS) for Cullman Electric Cooperative. 

The successful candidate should have an Associate’s degree in Computer Science from an accredited two-year college or technical school and a minimum of one (1) year related mapping experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with ArcGIS and AutoCAD is also preferred.


Competencies for these positions include the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Must also work with integrity, uphold organizational values, and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required include excellent computer skills including working knowledge of Windows based software for word processing, spreadsheet, and applicable GIS and CAD software.  Candidates must demonstrate excellent skills in communication, public relations, and leadership and possess the ability to work as a team member.

We are currently accepting applications for a System Engineer.

The main responsibilities of the Systems Engineer center around system reliability, grid protection and coordination, short and long term load forecasting, and SCADA operations. The candidate selected will have an integral role in the long term planning and success of our electric system and will be involved in the day to day operations as well as storm preparation and recovery.  As CEC’s system technology advances, this position will be key to developing a modern electric system that is SCADA controlled for the purpose of providing increased reliability and resiliency to the members of Cullman Electric Cooperative.  Utility experience, especially in the areas of protection, loading software, GIS software, and SCADA controls, is strongly desired but not required.  Applicant experience may range from recent graduates with a Bachelor of Engineering degree to seasoned electric utility professionals.  The salary will be based on experience and education.
