Cullman EC and CoBank Donate $20,000 to local non-profit groups
Two local non-profit groups received checks this fall totaling $20,000 from Cullman Electric Cooperative and the CoBank Sharing Success grant program.
Each year, the co-op’s elected leaders budget funds to donate to local non-profit organizations and apply for a matching grant from the CoBank Sharing Success Program. Checks were delivered in August, and representatives from each group met to receive their checks in September.
The Cullman County Imagination Library received $12,000 to support funding for the local chapter of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free books monthly to children age 5 and under. This past year, the program provided 2,921 local children with more than 83,000 books.
Good Samaritan Health Clinic received $8,000 to support funding for the clinic, which provides primary health and wellness care to uninsured individuals between the ages of 19 and 65.
CoBank is a national cooperative bank serving vital industries across rural America. The bank provides loans, leases, export financing and other financial services to agribusinesses and rural power, water and communications providers in all 50 states.
The money set aside for the donation comes from revenue Cullman Electric earns through its billing services and not electricity sales.
Cullman Electric has participated in the Sharing Success program since it started in 2012 and has helped local non-profit agencies receive $175,000.
