Cullman Electric Cooperative Pre-Paid Metering System Announcement
On Thursday, Nov. 23, Cullman Electric Cooperative’s pre-paid metering system stopped reporting daily electric usage data to the co-op’s billing system. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, this error was not discovered until the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 28. When actual electric usage data is not available, our billing system will calculate daily usage based on historical data for that meter. Once the actual usage is available, the system updates with the correct data. Sometimes this results in members receiving a credit if the projected electricity usage is greater than the actual usage. If the actual usage is more than what was projected, that expense is charged to your account. Due to the colder weather over the Thanksgiving weekend, actual daily electric usage for many people was significantly higher than projected. This resulted in many of our prepay members having their account balance go negative without being notified that their account balance was low or empty. As a result, many of you were notified today that your account was scheduled to be disconnected.
Cullman Electric has canceled all cutoffs to prepaid electric accounts scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 29, and Thursday, Nov. 30. Cutoffs will resume on Friday, Dec. 1. If you need help paying an overdue prepay balance, please contact Cullman Electric at 256-737-3200 before 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, and we will place that balance into debt recovery. This will bring your account balance back to zero, and 25 percent of future payments will go toward the debt recovery balance until it is paid in full.
We apologize for the inconvenience and are here to help if needed.
