It's the chicken and the egg question. As a consumer, do you buy an electric vehicle if there are not many charging stations around? As a business, do you put in a charging station when there are not many electric vehicles in the area? Who goes first?
Well, Cullman Electric decided it was time to invest in our community and offer a charging station at our Eva Road office.
Anyone can stop by and "recharge" in one of the two stations located at the south end of our parking lot. Maybe you're in town to pay a bill or meet a friend for lunch. Or maybe that friend is from out of town and hasn't visited because of the lack of access to a charging station.
Larry Drake, Cullman EC's Facilities and Energy Services Coordinator, said "There are a few co-op members with electric vehicles now. They all have home charging capabilities; however, they've said having access to chargers away from home is important too. We know the number of members with EVs will only increase in the future."
"Most EV owners use apps to know where charging stations are located," says Brian Lacy, Manager of Communications & External Affairs for Cullman EC. "Now, when they plan their trips, Cullman can be one of their stops. It's a perfect location for those traveling to and from Birmingham, Huntsville, Nashville, and other areas. We believe this charging station is more than just a benefit to our members, but a small way to help boost economic development and tourism."
