Update 11 PM:
There are approximately 2,600 members without power and 178 outages. Crews will continue to work through the night. We will provide an update with more information in the morning.
Update 8:30 PM:
Power has been restored to an additional 1,000 members. There are approximately 2,600 members without power and a total of 182 outages.
One thing that is taking so long with the remaining outages is that as damage is being assessed larger outages are actually 5 to 6 smaller outages, which is why as the number of members without power decreases we are still seeing a high number of individual outages.
For every single outage, the damage has to be assessed and the cause has to be determined so that the appropriate materials and crews can be dispatched. For most of these outages, a right-of-way crew has to remove any limbs, trees, or debris before work can begin. With so many outages, it just takes a long time to assess each outage. It is a long process, and it takes time, but crews are working as quickly as possible.
Update 5:30 PM:
Power has been restored to approximately 1,200 members. There are still 3,700 members without power and a total of 182 outages.
We thank everyone for their patience, as everyone is working as quickly as possible to restore power. We have over 150 men out in the field working, as well as over 30 administrative employees in the office working to help make things run as quickly as possible.

UPDATE 3 PM:
The storm system that moved through the area earlier today did extensive damage across the Cullman Electric Cooperative system. As of 2:30 p.m., approximately 20,000 co-op members are without power due to approximately 200 separate power outages, and approximately 1,700 Sprout subscribers are without internet service. We are still receiving damage reports, and our operations team is continuing to assess the damage to our system.
Co-op linemen are already working to restore power this afternoon and into tonight, but due to a large number of individual outages, many areas will not have power restored until sometime this weekend. It is impossible to say for sure when a specific location will be restored. We will do our best to keep everyone informed about the progress.
We know dozens of poles have been broken, and we anticipate more will be found. We have seven crews from contractors, along with multiple crews from Cullman Power Board, that are already helping or will be later today. There are multiple right-of-way contract crews en route from out of state that will be here tomorrow morning and focus on clean-up and tree removal, which will help speed up the power restoration process.
Co-op linemen and Sprout teams are already working to restore power this afternoon and into tonight, but due to a large number of individual outages, many areas will not have power restored until sometime this weekend. It is impossible to say for sure when a specific location will be restored. We will do our best to keep everyone informed about the progress.
Our #1 request to our members this afternoon is please STAY AWAY FROM DOWNED POWER LINES. Always assume a power line on the ground is still energized, and contact the co-op to report the location.
