Cullman Electric Cooperative to Automatically Enroll Members in Text Message Notifications for Outages and Service Updates
As part of its ongoing commitment to improving member communication and service reliability, Cullman Electric Cooperative will begin automatically enrolling all members in text message notifications for important service-related updates.
Starting Aug. 6, 2025, members with a valid mobile phone number on file with Cullman Electric will receive automated text alerts regarding:
- Planned maintenance notifications
- Other critical service information
- In addition to receiving critical information, members can report a power outage by sending the message #OUT to 256-737-3200.
This enhancement follows the recent transition to the co-op’s primary 10-digit phone number, (256) 737-3200, and reflects Cullman Electric's ongoing investment in faster, more effective member communications.
“Timely information is essential, especially during outages,” said Brian Lacy, Vice President of Communications & Member Engagement at Cullman Electric Cooperative. “By automatically enrolling our members in text alerts, we’re helping ensure they stay informed without needing to take extra steps. It’s one more way we’re making service more reliable and communication more accessible.”
How it works:
• If you have a mobile number associated with your Cullman Electric account, you will automatically begin receiving relevant notifications.
• Members can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message.
• To update your contact information or confirm your mobile number is on file, please log in to your Cullman Electric online account through the Cullman Electric App or online portal or call Member Services at (256) 737-3200.
Cullman Electric encourages members to save (256) 737-3200 as “Cullman EC Alerts” in their phone contacts to recognize messages quickly during emergency or service events.
