Still, severe weather — from tornadoes and high winds to ice storms — can sometimes cause unavoidable outages. When that happens, our crews are ready with a plan to restore power safely and efficiently.
How We Restore Power
When it’s safe to begin restoration, crews focus first on repairs that will restore power to the greatest number of members in the shortest time.
- Main distribution lines – These large lines deliver power to entire neighborhoods and businesses.
- Tap lines – Smaller lines that carry power from the main lines to transformers on poles or pads.
- Service lines – The final connection between the transformer and your home.
This step-by-step process ensures power is restored as quickly and safely as possible for everyone.
Preparation Makes a Difference
We can’t control the weather, but we can be ready for it. Cullman Electric keeps extra poles, transformers, and critical equipment on hand for emergencies. During major events, multiple crews work simultaneously across the service area, and we coordinate with neighboring co-ops for additional support when needed.
Preventing Outages Before They Happen
Routine maintenance helps reduce the risk of outages. You may see our crews trimming trees and clearing vegetation along rights-of-way — essential work that keeps branches from taking down power lines during storms. We also inspect poles, lines, and equipment regularly to keep our system reliable year-round.

Safety and Preparedness
